Hi! I hope this isn't too forward.I saw your post asking for advice on writing about WNC in 1895ish.I would suggest looking first at what happened during the Civil War then move on to the residual effects of that turmoil on the area. Victims by Philip Paludan and Reconstructing Appalachia by Andrew Slap might be good places to start.I live in WNC and was born in Madison County and have done extensive research on Appalachia, specifically WNC, this semester. Let me know if I can help any more!

I was working with a really tight deadline so I wasn’t able to use these books for my final, but I’ve saved the information and the story is definitely I want to return to in the near future and continue researching!
